Councillor George Regan to stand down
8 February 2012
Councillor George Regan has today announced he
is to stand down at this year’s local government elections.
George Regan said,
"I have decided to announce my retirement at the forthcoming council
elections.
"Representing my fellow Dundonians on the city council has been the
greatest honour of my life.
"But as some people may know, I have been battling illness for some time
now and that has to be the focus of all my energies.
"I am sorry that I will not be able to play an active part in Labour's
campaign but am strongly backing my colleagues.
"Labour has a real vision for the city of
Dundee and we need to keep our city moving forward."
Councillor Kevin Keenan, Labour Group Leader, added,
"George has been a friend and colleague for many years and has worked
tirelessly for the people of Dundee.
"George has campaigned locally and on an international stage at the
United Nations on the issues he feels close to his heart.
"He was also instrumental in establishing
Europe’s first ever Good Neighbour Charter.
"I would like to thank George for his hard work, dedication and
commitment to the Labour Party and the many constituents he has
represented over the years in the different wards of the City."
