Jenny Marra : SNP had the power to save Remploy
5 July 2013
Commenting on the announcement that the Remploy factory in Dundee was to close, Jenny Marra MSP said,
"Today's news is a bitter blow for the 43 workers at the Dunsinane factory who have been campaigning hard with dignity to save their jobs.
"It is a crying shame that the SNP didn't use their power in the Council and the Scottish Government to let the skilled Remploy workers make uniforms for police, firefighters and nurses across Scotland.
"They could have easily done this using EU law that prioritises public contracts for disabled workers.
“They just needed the political will to piece it together around a social enterprise, but that never came about.
"I hope that in the future we can find a way of providing more supported workplaces in Dundee to give people the dignity in work that they deserve."
