Jenny Marra challenges Dundee SNP over shovel-ready projects
6 December 2012
Commenting on the news that Finance Secretary John Swinney will have increased spending power of £331m for capital investment, Jenny Marra has challenged Joe Fitzpatrick MSP and Shona Robison MSP to demand some of that money comes to Dundee for shovel-ready projects.
“Dundee’s SNP MSPs identified shovel-ready projects in the city earlier this year when they called for the money from the British Government.
“Now that £331m is in the hands of the Scottish Government, I am calling on our SNP members of Parliament to hold a meeting with Finance Secretary John Swinney at the earliest opportunity and make sure that a good slice of this money is spent in Dundee.
“The SNP now have the chance to put their money where their mouth and get this investment to Dundee.
“More construction firms in Dundee have gone bust this year and hundreds of Dundonian tradesmen need work.
“Now is the time to make Dundee’s case at the highest level of government to make sure Dundee gets its fair share.”
The Dundee shovel-ready projects that the SNP identified in March this year are:
Phases 2 and 3 of refurbishment of Duncan of Jordanstone at the University of Dundee
Dundee Academy of Sport for University of Abertay/Dundee College
£4.5m spending on Dundee Central Waterfront
Additionally the Scottish Government’s list includes:
£3m for additional theatre capacity at Ninewells Hospital
£1m Intensive care unit upgrade
