Jenny Marra MSP : Prince’s Trust Young People quiz new Shadow Minister

9 September 2013

Young people at The Prince’s Trust Dundee Centre joined the newly appointed Shadow Youth Employment Minister for a roundtable discussion on Monday.

Jenny Marra, Labour MSP, visited Dundee Centre, where she met with young people taking part in The Prince’s Trust Fairbridge, Team and Enterprise programmes.

During the roundtable discussion young people talked with Ms Marra about their experiences and how The Prince’s Trust helped them take steps towards work, education, training or business.

They also quizzed Ms Marra about her plans to help more young people struggling to find work in Dundee and throughout Scotland in her new role as the Shadow Youth Employment Minister.

Speaking after her visit, Ms Marra said:  “I was delighted to meet with young people taking part in The Prince’s Trust programmes at the Dundee Centre and hear about their experiences overcoming barriers to work and education.

“We know youth unemployment is a challenge facing many young people, not just in Dundee and the surrounding area, but throughout Scotland.

“That’s why the work of organisations like The Prince’s Trust is so important in giving young people the skills, experience and confidence they need to get into work, re-engage with learning or even start their own business.

“I look forward to working closely with the Trust in my new role.“

Allan Watt, newly appointed Director for The Prince’s Trust in Scotland, added:

“It was a pleasure to have Jenny Marra MSP visit our Dundee Centre and hear from our young people about their experiences and their thoughts on how to tackle youth unemployment.

“We look forward to working closely with Jenny and other vital partners to ensure more young people in Scotland can look forward to brighter futures. “

The Prince’s Trust Scotland aims to reach over 7,500 young people who are not in work, education or training, throughout Scotland this year.

Three in four young people helped by the charity move into jobs, education or training.
