Jenny Marra MSP welcomes news on Nablus fire truck release
17 November 2011
Commenting on the news that a donated fire truck was today being released by Israeli authorities en route to Nablus in Palestine, Jenny Marra said:
"I am delighted that the fire truck has been released by the Israeli authorities.
"The announcement is particularly important to our city because the truck was donated by the FBU in Dundee to make the long journey to Dundee’s twin city, Nablus.
"It has taken months of hard work by trade unions to bring lifesaving equipment to this part of the world, but the hard work has finally paid off and I believe Palestinians will benefit greatly from their efforts"
"At a briefing in the Scottish Parliament yesterday, MSPs were told how two fire appliances and fire safety equipment were purchased by donations from FBU members and supporters.
"The appliances, complete with equipment, were driven from Dundee through nine countries before taking the ferry from Greece to Haifa in Israel. Unfortunately, one appliance broke down in Greece and had to be left, but the second, with all the equipment, reached Israel.
"Equipment being delivered includes: breathing apparatus, 150 sets of protective fire kit, 80 fire helmets, 80 pairs of leather protective boots, and 100 pairs of fire gauntlets.
