Jenny Marra MSP :  Motion proposed in the Scottish Parliament on Hutting in Scotland

18 July 2013

Hutting in Scotland

That the Parliament welcomes the proposed provision for huts for temporary recreational accommodation in the draft Scottish Planning Policy; considers that huts can deliver significant benefits to urban and rural communities, including many of the most disadvantaged groups in society, by providing a renewed culture of healthy and rewarding experiences of simple living in Scotland’s natural environment; believes that this could demonstrate exemplary low-carbon rural enterprise; considers that the current lack of provision unreasonably limits access to the countryside for many people in Scotland; welcomes Reforesting Scotland’s campaign to expand the possibilities of hutting, and urges all relevant stakeholders to smooth the way for legitimisation and encouragement of a new Scottish hutting culture.
