Jim McGovern calls for urgent meeting as Dundee Airport passengers fall
24 January 2013
Dundee West MP Jim McGovern has written to Dundee Airport operators HIAL to ask for an urgent meeting to discuss an alarming fall in passenger numbers.
It has been reported that a dramatic fall of over 50% has occurred in passenger numbers using Dundee Airport over the month of December. This came in the wake of airline Loganair withdrawing services from Dundee in October.
Mr McGovern has written to airport operator HIAL to request an urgent meeting to discuss what can be done to ensure the airport halts this decline and finds a way increase passenger numbers.
Jim McGovern said,
“This substantial fall in passenger numbers is extremely worrying. A well used airport that is connected to destinations throughout the UK and further afield is vital to Dundee’s economy.”
“The public have complained to me about the high prices of flights, the limited number of destinations and the lack of facilities at the airport. It is crucial these concerns are addressed as a matter of urgency.”
Mr McGovern concluded;
“I hope a meeting with the airport operator will go ahead as soon as is practical. A way forward for the airport must be found without delay.”
