Jim McGovern voices relief for Grangemouth workers
25 October 2013
Jim McGovern, MP for Dundee West, has voiced his relief that the jobs of 800 workers at the Grangemouth are no longer at risk.
Jim McGovern said;
“Naturally I am relieved for the 800 Grangemouth workers that their jobs are now safe.
“It is a terrible position to be placed in to worry about whether or not you’re going to have a job.
“I believe that this could have been avoided if Ineos had been prepared to follow Unite’s lead and negotiated in a reasonable and sensible manner.
“This episode has demonstrated well what can be achieved when the UK and the Scottish governments work together to get a good result for working people.
“I hope in the coming months this success is remembered as we debate the future of the United Kingdom.”
Mr McGovern concluded;
“I know that Unite and the workforce will continue to work productively with Ineos to ensure the rescue plan succeeds.
“It is vital for Scotland and for the workers that Grangemouth goes from strength to strength in the future.”
