Big slump in number of people in employment in Dundee in the past three years
28 October 2014
Commenting on a Dundee City Council report which indicated that the number of people of working age in employment in the city had slumped to 58,100 from 65,500 in the latest three years, Kevin Keenan, Labour group leader on Dundee City Council, said,
“The drop in the numbers in employment in the city is alarming.
“This is a matter that has to be tackled collectively.
“It needs co-operation and commitment across political boundaries to ensure a solution.
“First Minister Alex Salmond signed a memorandum of understanding saying that he was bringing 700 extra jobs in renewables to the city.
“It is just as well that we are not holding our breath waiting for this to happen.
“It really is quite disappointing .
“We need to look to other places, for example to Aberdeen.
“We need to discover if there are any oil-related jobs that can be brought down the coast”
