Jim McGovern condemns Royal Mail decision to close Crichton Street office

23 August 2011

Jim McGovern, MP for Dundee West, has called on the Royal Mail to reconsider its decision to close the Crichton Street parcel office.

Mr McGovern has written to the Chief Executive of Royal Mail, Moya Greene, outlining his concerns and asking her to look urgently into this decision and to overturn it in order to keep the Crichton Street office open.

This comes as Dundee city councillors voted unanimously to oppose the closure of the city centre office.

Jim McGovern said,

“It is important that members of the public are able to access Royal Mail services and pick up their parcels, and I am concerned that closing this parcel office may stop some people from being able to do that.

“I have sent a letter today to the Chief Executive of Royal Mail explaining my concerns and asking them to reverse this decision in order to keep the Crichton Street office open.”

Mr McGovern concluded,

“Many people will find it difficult to travel out of the city to pick up their parcels, and they find the city centre office a much better option.

"We must ensure that such essential services are accessible for everyone.

"I hope the Royal Mail listen to the concerns of the people of Dundee and reverse this decision.”
