Development Management Committee
17 June 2014
On Monday evening I attended the June meeting of the Development Management Committee.
There were only three planning applications on the agenda.
The one which attracted most attention was one by Sainsbury's where they wished to increase the percentage of non-food goods that they sell from 20% to 30%.
I voted against this proposal because I felt that it is important that we protect local shopping areas and that we should be wary of allowing large supermarkets the ability to effectively do as they please.
Supermarkets are popular and just about everyone uses them but we must also work hard to protect independent stores and also variety and diversity in shopping areas.
